As part of the exhibition programming in conjunction with All the World to See, we are exploring media and pop culture. The television sitcom “Julia” premiered September 17, 1968 and ran for 85 episodes. The show’s main character, played by Diahann Carroll, was about an African American widowed single mother named Julia and her young son. Julia worked as a nurse in a doctors office and her character challenged many of the typical stereotypes. In fact it was the first TV portrayal of an African American family living a middle class life.
